How do I figure out how many poles my motor has?

I am trying to order a tachometer for my '94 Evinrude 50/35 jet and it seems I need to know how many poles/pulses my motor has. Anyone know how to determine this? Also, is this a 2 cylinder motor I would assume? (see diagram)

I believe your motor has 12 poles which is 6 pulses. :?:

Most tachs are adjustable.
