Jon Boat trolling motor question

I have a 15' Alumacraft jon boat with a 5 hp motor. Since I mostly fish by myself and am fishing from the back of the boat where the motor is I was wondering if I could get a trolling motor that would mount on the side of the boat but near the back. I have seen motors that have a transom mount and figure this would attach anywhere on the boat, even the side. Mainly what I was wondering about if mounted on the side of the boat how would the maneuverability be affected. I figure that it would not maneuver like it would if mounted on the front or on the stern but would it still work? Thanks for any input.

it will work and going straight ahead wouldn't be bad but the turns,,, well lets say it will not turn on a dime
maybe find soemone around you that could lend you the motor to try it out
