Hi Everyone,

I’m having a hard time understanding the manual for new Suzuki OUTBOARD (9.9-20hp). I’m trying to select my battery for the electric start ... can you use a normal 12 v battery for this ? Or does it need to be a special type ? I don’t want to buy a deep cycle/dual purpose bcs of the prices here.

Just looking for the cheapest option for the cranking.

24MS 625 MCA for about $70 at Walmart.

2016 Owners manual states not to use a deep cycle or just about all other battery chemistry for starting battery and a minimum of 450 MCA.

Car starting batteries will work, they are not designed to handle the pounding and vibrations that you get in the marine environment.

I have a Suzuki DF9.9 and have used the above battery for about 4 years.

Yeah our manual says the same thing, In the notes it does say a dual battery can be used. I guess we are looking for the smallest option available - due to weight. But thank you for the advice I’ll check it out. I appreciate it!
