New to wiring, don't want to torch my boat just yet!

So, I'm new to marine and DC wiring. Since I have some time to study up before I get anywhere near any hands on work on the boat (thank you rain! :roll: ) I wanted to know if anyone had any tips or links to some primers on boat wiring, selecting the right size battery, wire gauge, etc.

Do a search on here, there is several posts where people have posted links to sites that show reccomendatiions based on load and length needed.

My philosophy is bigger wire than needed never hurts.
