hello everyone !! i just bought a 1973 Mercury 9.8 , it seems to run good and got for a sweet deal . i was told i could get a little more power out of it if i put on a 15 horse carb. if i did will it cause more wear on the motor ? ie . rings , piston , cylinders ? i dont want to tear it up for a little extra power . also how much more gain would i get ? thanks everyone ....

It won't be any harder on your motor. I don't know what the performance gain will be? i'm more of a OMC guy  so I don't know much about how the merc run, but I do know that it won't harm the motor. The bigger carb will let in more gas and more air.
Hope this helps. Cody
