I have a 20 ho 74 Merc that blew a cyclinder this spring. I have had two differnt places tell me it is the #2 cylinder and it has 0 compression in that cylinder. Is there anyway of fixing this motor or is it just destined to be parted out. I have a relationship with the motor and hate to see her go but I cant really throw anymore money at her either. Thanks for the input.

So, is there any disadvantage of taking it apart and seeing if the piston has a hole from a selling perspective? I am planning on parting it out on ebay and am hoping that someone would pick it up just for the parts but if taking it apart would hurt my chances I will just leave it alone. I sure would like to see that piston......

Go to one of the tool rental places and see if they have inspection cameras like https://m.lowes.com/product?langId=-1&storeId=10702&catalogId=10051&productId=3276903&store=0388&view=detail&nValue=Search. If they do it would be a simple matter of pulling the spark plug and inserting the camera.

Or you could get a bore light and look down the plug hole .Like the kind used to look down rifles or shot guns.
