putting a new head gasket on a 1972 johnson 9.5hp. im going to be getting a manual from the library but til then, do i need to prepare surface, do instructions come with the gasket, b/c i want to make sure that this is done right and that i dont have to do it again. Any help appreciated

I clean the mating surfaces with a scotchbrite pad and then wipe down with denatured alcohol.
