Today was the first time I have ever fished the Pocomoke river. It was a most enjoyable ride and the fishing wasn't to bad ether.

I caught my first gar on hook&line :D I also caught my first chain pickerel. I was only 5 crappie short of my limit and a couple of other fish too.

We have never tried it but I found a website from a guy down in LA that shows you how to clean them and cook them. He sayes they are very good to eat, so if they do turn out to be good I will let everyone know.

=D> =D> =D> nice job! especially with that gar on a hook&line, our creek is loaded with em but so far in 3 years i have only managed 1 and that one was caught because my braid got caught in its teeth. Were you able to penetrate its bill with your hook?

I'm curious about eating the gar too. I've never even tried and hooked several over the years. They'll go after a lure too. Caught several on topwater.

First let me say don't tell your buddies that gar are worth eating. It was late and I forgot to take pics of the cleaning. You can check out the cleaning at https://www.bowfishingmadness.com/Gar-Cleaning.html.

So after the 8min cleaning out came some of the best looking and smelling meat you could ask for.

I had to make sure that all of the dark meat was off.

Once it was I clean. The first strip into one inch pieces and the second into 1/2in pieces.

Next I breaded one set and the second set got prepared the way the website said.

Lastly I cooked them.

Let me tell you guys the recipe that is on the website was good but just a little tough for me and my family's taste. but the thinner cut breaded and fried was right on the mark. The long muscle structure is more conducive to really thin cut and quick fry for the best result. All of the gar in the Pocomoke river better watch out.
