Roll pin replacement

I got to replace/ remove a roll pin on my starter , replace the platic pinion gear on top, is it as simple as using a plier to remove (its hollow) then re insert new one?

Usually not. I have found that most are very tight and will need to use a punch and hammer. But, use the hammer and punch and tap it out and replace...just that simple.
