I've contacted a guy who's wanting to offload his johnson 20hp to me for an enticing price, but he doesn't know what year it was manufactured in. He just knows that its a 20 and that it's blue and white and that it runs.

Anyone know what year range a blue/white color scheme puts it in? :?:

When Bassboy1 gets on here, I bet he will know! :D
Im getting better with motor year recognition by looks and I have to say Im not sure about a blue and white Johnson. There are some really old ones that are a Greenish-blue and white (I think) and then the 70's ones are the army green and white. Then Im pretty sure from the early 80's they were white.

Anyway, Im betting that it was painted. Got any pics?

Are you sure it isn't an Evinrude?

Johnson didn't really make a blue and white motor, only Evinrude (although from about '55 to '99, they were identical under the hood). Evattman pretty well covered it all, except forgetting my favorite Johnson color scheme, the '56 - '59 or so candy apple red. The '55 and older motors were too green to fade to blue, so unless you are talking about an Evinrude, it has been repainted.

Here are 2 sites. One for each motor

I got it today. It's a 1966 20hp Johnson, starts on 1st or second pull, pumps water, purrs on idle. I'm changing the lower oil tomorrow.

Model FD-20C (canadian?)
Serial # J2645864

What can you guys tell me about it?

oh, and about the blue/white thing... it is white, but the lower unit is not original, it's blue. That's where the confusion came from.
