Need help on a conversion from steering wheel set up to a tiller steer.

I am looking at this motor: https://hickory.craigslist.org/boa/3873228208.html

I have a 1542 Sea Ark and want to repower from a 15HP Johnny to a 25HP.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of conversion? How much cost am I looking at?

Seems like a pretty good deal for a mint condition 25HP o/b, just wish it was a tiller handle

Thanks!

Unfortunately without a serial # cost is going to be difficult. However here is a link to the parts associated with that type of OB. Pricing may be higher or lower , but having to buy a tiller setup piece by piece is going to be $$$$$$$.. https://www.boats.net/parts/search/Merc2/Mercury/25%20%284-STROKE%29/9973100%20THRU%200P016999/Tiller%20Handle/parts.html

I would consider installing stick steering, it would probably be a few $ 100 cheaper . Heck, I'm trying to convert my Yammie 25 from tiller to remote so I can add stick steering to my boat......

I would sell my OB , but my only problem I have is , finding a OB like mine in great shape with low hours set up for remote .

OK...you buy the Mercury and I'll take that Yammy off your hands. Problem solved!!!!

I converted an older 20 hp merc from remote to tiller but it was a much older motor and I was able to find all of the parts I needed on ebay. You might try looking for the mount bracket and tiller on ebay and hope you get lucky. That should be the main expense of the conversion.

LOL..... I used to be a big fan of mercury outboards but seems like the past few years their quality has gone downhill . I bought my first Yamaha in 1994 which is the same outboard('89) that I have today.
