We all just put regular fishfinders on our yaks and glue them in as 'shoot throughs' or mount thru sculper hole if surfsce water temp is desired. A nice simple color machine can be had for $100.

what about something like this? Thinking about trying one out on my jon boat.

it uses your smart phone as a display.

I know some ice fishermen that have tried the sonarphone by Vexilar. My advice is to avoid it unless all you are interested in is depth. A real device would be a much better choice if you want to see fish and structure.

Edit: Just re-read your first post and if it's just depth that would work, but it's very low power so in deep water it's not very accurate.

Garmin is going to release a new series called Striker. All have Chirp. They are suppose to be portable with a kit available for ice fisherman and kayaks.
