about to start on decking 12' shallow vee, i want to cut holes in tops of bench seats to make storage hatches, leaving the upper corners intact all across between the gunwales, and space in the middle for a pedestal seat. not sure of floor width but am told boat is about 50 inches between gunwales, not getting boat until sunday. are their any problems with this as far as hull support? holes will be about 10x15 inches, one on each end of bench. i also plan on putting a vertical post inside bench between floor and seat pedestal. what do you all think?

Here is what I did. It's not exactly like what your talking about. I had to add alum. angle under the seat and line the edges of my hatch. This way whoever I'm fishing with can stand on the back seat.
