caught a sturgeon yesterday on the Missouri river near st louis, this thing was awsome to see first hand, very pe historic

That is wayyy cool. I saw huge Atlantic Shortnose sturgeon jumping in the Raritain bay last fall - they are endangered so you are not suppossed to even target them
 
Pre-historic is correct. They are really weird looking. did you snag it or were you using a bait or lure?
I have never caught one and seldom venture out on the big rivers here in St. Louis town...that turbulent water scares me and my little boat.

those are a blast to catch. we have a sport fishery for sturgeon up here on the fraser river.they're protected here so its catch and release only,but the average size is 6 feet.the biggest lately was over 14' . i think the record was over 18'.i destroyed my wifes drift rod when i accidently caught one 3 yrs.ago.i was using braided line and couldnt cut it in time,busted the rod 6" above the ferrule.boy was she pissed :LOL2:
