Livewell& switches

I have a bilge pum in my livewell im makeing. How do I attach the on/off switch into the wireng? through the positive or the negatie?

I believe either will safely work

Yes could do it either way. unless you use lighted switch that has power ground and a positive output when switched.

The usual practice is to run the 12V through the switch. This removes all voltage and eliminates the possibility of something sharp cutting the insulation or the wire insulation abrading on something metal and shorting out.
