Whats up?...i have a 1987 traveler 16 ft bass/jon boat, its got a 20 in transom. Would a 1986 merc 90 six cylinder be alright for this boat? Ive seen similar boats with similar motors,,,just want some opinions..thanks guys..

Thats the thing, it doesnt have a plate, and cant find any info on it...transoms thick, and in good shape, think im gonna do it...i had an inline six mariner, bout the same thing...lotsa p

Refer the coast guards guide for home built boat building. They discuss how to tell if you have too much engine for your hull. A lot of it has to do with backsplash and stability in turns. Most data plates are for tiller steering, console steering changes the rating a good bit because it moves the CG forward.
