Saltwater and tide question

Sorry to put this into the fishing report section but I didn't know where else to put it. I was wondering if someone could explain to me how the tides affect fishing in saltwater. I hear people talk about how fishing depends on the tides but no one will explain what to look for and when the good times to fish are when looking at a tide chart. any help would be appreciated.
