Well today my new powertech stainless prop came in. My old aluminum prop had a plastic piece that fit between the gearcase and propeller. It doesn't fit on the stainless one, so I'm assuming I don't need one?

Also bent my prop shaft this morning so doesn't look like I'll get to use this prop anytime soon unfortunately.

Motor is a 97 Yamaha 25hp three cylinder.

It really helps when, during your posting, you include what engine/year/boat/model, etc. to your posts and looking for information.
Not trying to be rude here but we are not mind readers!
A 1950's Johnson 35hp propeller does not go on or include the same prop hardware that a new Yamaha 4-stroke does for example........Specially when you are trying to install a 3rd party aftermarket, fits-all, propeller.
Have you looked at the PowerTech website for directions and possible adapter hardware for your particular application?

Well I contacted power tech and they said it wasn't needed. Thanks anyways fellas.
