    1960s voltage regulator.

I have a 1962 evenrude 40 hp lark, manual shift, elect start, belt drive 12v generator. Want to replace the voltage regulator and starter selinoin in the original controll box. The original part numbers turn up nothing. Both look like the common parts you saw on car firewalls back in the day...

    Who knows old Big Twins

The goal is a well done engine under a Lark IV cowl. The question is what should the compression be? I now have a '61 & two '62s, all 40 hp. All of those cylinders read between 89 and 93 PSI checked with two gauges. Apparently OMC never let compression #s out, but somebody knew back in the day...

    1961 Lark 3

Bought what seems to be a restorable 1961 Lark 111 40 hp, ser# checks out. I've seen reference to a crankshaft problem with them. Most say it was until 1960, some say still a problem in 1961. Best I can find if it really was a problem by 1962 it was fixed. Anyone know the real story? Don't...

Do'es anyone have any suggestions to restore a mid '50s steering wheel. Bakite? plastic? over steel. Two cracks with a small gaps where the two spokes meet the rim. Next question is what works for color on a wheel. The original white is worn off in places, black underneath. Vintage looking...

    Short or long shaft

I really want to mount a Merc Mark 55 or 58 on a restore with a 16 inch transom. Every time I get a line on one its a short shaft, and always 100+ miles away so I've never measured one. Can anyone tell me if a "short shaft" will work on a 16 inch transom? I'm told shaft length is measured from...

    Old steering cable guides

Heres a pic of the original front cable guides on a '59 aluminum. 1st pair off the pulleys. Due to the angle they have worn through, no way to change that angle. Another set of pulleys there would stick out way to far. I have another set of guides to buck rivet in but was wondering if there is...

    1959 windshield mod

Had a heck of a time to find a windshield for this '59 Mohawk. What I have came from a glass '61 ark traveler. Polished up fine, windshield is 3/16 thick. Mounted on the Traveler it measured 55" wide. I can live with that 55 inches on the Mohawk but at 59 inches wide it would look perfect. Two...

    ob vs io advice

I'm fishing for some practical, experienced advice. I've settled on a hull that meets my needs, a '70s - '80s alum Starcraft 18 ft open bow, probably an SS model. I expect a full rebuild. Not concerned with that, mechanical, aluminum experience & tools I have. I have little experience with...

    Starter wire gauge?

Can't find this in search. Can't find the amps on the starter and it's not wired so I can't check it under load. Do'es anyone know the original starter wire gauge or the amp draw on a '63 40hp Evinrude? While searching I also saw the term continuous run solenoid. I expected to use a common...

    Old Evinrude ?

I'm adding elect start & generator to a 1962 Speeditwin 28hp, 282002C. On the starter side the starter bracket was in place. On the generator side I replaced the original bracket with the generator bracket. All matches up, clears and looks fine except. The original configuration has an...

    Mohawk restoration

This is my 1st boat restore and I need some advice on the transom replacement. Only info on the hull is the name and the #210. What you see in the pics is as I found it. That won't do, I'd rather overbuild. Transom is 53" W & 15" D, boat is 15' 10" length. What I think I need to know is how much...
