I had a nice brand new 19 ft flats boat with a monthly payment and insurance that seemed to come around a lot more than I could use it. I am a new father of two beautiful girls. Both under two years old, finding the time to go was very scarce. I probably used it maybe three time over the last two years. So it was not a hard decision I needed to off load the payment and find a cheaper route. So I started keeping my eye out for a nice wide jon boat with lots of room.
So I found this diamond in the rough.....
It's a 1997 Sylvan 1644. 17ft with a 72" beam. Very sturdy boat.
Here are a few pictures from the day I got it:
So first thing I did was gut it. It had tons on nick-nack crap all bolted in it. Plastic rod holders, cup holders, wood running down side of it for clamping stuff on. I just wanted it gutted clean. So here it is after I got all the old crap off:
After I got everything out, I called a high school buddy who does spray-in bed liners in trucks and boats. He quoted me $500 bucks to spray the interior and the back outside transom. So I dropped it off to him one afternoon. They spent a afternoon sanding and prepping it for the spray. The next morning They sprayed it in about a hour. He called me at lunch to come pick it up that it was ready. When I got there to pick it up, I was in awwwww at how it came out. I couldn't believe my eyes. How could a 20 year old boat look so good!?
So Next I got it home and last Saturday, I spent the day putting in all the new bells and whistles. I put in (all brand new stuff) a Minn-Kota 54lb thrust Co-Pilot wireless trolling motor, JBL Gauge style bluetooth stereo, Infinity waterproof speakers, Stainless steel cup holders in the top of the drivers console, waterproof 6 switch rocker panel, 8 foot, 4 bow Bimini top, and a 12v socket charger, and a dual USB charger port.
