I wanted an RGB Led strip so I could run red lights during duck season, green lights while night fishing, and so I could have white lights in case I needed to see. This little project prompted me to re-wire the boat and re-work my bilge area. Enjoy

Thank you guys. I'm trying to get it finished and wired by the 22nd of Nov for our duck opener but 2 jobs and fulltime school keep my time limited. Its down to wiring and getting my front deck done.

Thats awesome! I'd like to see a still shot of your wiring setup. And where did you get the lights themselves? =D>

Really nice, I like the lights in the compartments.

I have a few small led lights that I was going to install, this idea may be a game changer.

Ive got pictures of the distribution panel but thats about it. The leds came from Amazon and have an infared remote. I can change my lights from anywhere on the boat. I searched rgb led and bought them from the seller lemonbest i think they were 16.00 with 2.00 shipping. I had to do a little work to them to make them completely waterproof like epoxy potting the control board and use a waterproof double stick tape as the tape that came with it is not.

T Man! That is probably the best lighting installation that I've ever seen. Very clean and neat job. Would you take a pic of the strip along the gunnels. Did you use adhesive on the under side. I was think some clear rigid tubing to run it in. You may have to put out the ''formula''(pics & PN#) of your little brainstorm for us old senior citizens to be able to do it themselves.

I cut a roll of Scotch exterior double stick tape in half so it would be as wide as the led strip to attach to the gunnel of the boat, but under my decks I used NM wiring staples to go into the wood framing. I tried using a staple gun which ended up poorly. I was able to salvage some of the LED strip, but ended up having to order another.

I didnt take any pictures, but the control box that comes with the LED strip is not waterproof or water resistant. I ruined the first one by leaving it out and morning dew shorted it out. After I ordered another set of lights I did some digging trying to find a potting material for the control module, but everything I saw was around $40 a tube, so after more digging, I didnt find a conclusive answer as to why 5 minute epoxy could not be used. The best reason I could come up with is that it wont allow the wires to flex and could result in breakage. After I pulled the back off the control box, I bought the loctite tube with the mixer tip and put a pretty good bed down. I covered the components on the board with a bead of epoxy to eliminate air pockets and pressed it down into the bed I had just laid. I then used the remaining epoxy to cover the board.

Ill see if I can't go out and film a quick video of the setup during the day.

After using this set-up for a season are the LED's bright enough for you? I was looking into the same thing, I hunt and fish. I want red for putting out decoys and green for night fishing and blue for seeing stuff. I was just worried that that roll wouldnt be enough lumens to see proper.

Groovie man...psychedelic...give me your address and I'll send you one of my lava lamps for the bow...

To be honest, I only used it once it twice. I had the remote in my jacket pocket and lost my coat. By the time I got another, our season was pretty much done. I ordered another set and ran them on the other side of the boat just in case.

I have been planning on doing this very thing to my boat. I have been looking on Ebay, but I'll check amazon too.
