Guys, I was looking at the BigFoot foot control for a hand control TM. I got to thinking: Why can't I attach a dimmer switch style control and make the TM a variable speed? Doesn't a dimmer switch just control the amount of electricity going to the appliance?
What do you guys think?

Well, both a trolling motor control and a dimmer switch are potentiometers. (varable resistance controllers)

But, the amp ratings on each may be different and probably are, so you'd have to figure something out about controlling the amount of current going through the switch.

I'm sure that if you're good with your hands and thinking things through with electronics that you coul create a decent trolling motor control.

I think. Try it at your own risk...

A standard dimmer is only good for a few amps, most trolling motors are
20 plus amps ...so you will fry it quickly.
