I looked through the search to see if there were similar problems to mine but didn't find anything so I apologize if this is old news.

I was out a the lake about 2 weeks ago and I was only able to use my trolling motor due to another problem with the gas motor... to make a long story short, about 20 feet from the dock the handle seemed to start shorting out. If I twist the handle to just the right spot, it will kick on for a moment but all the other positions that I turn the handle to, I get nothing.

I'm not to strong with electrical stuff but I'm a pretty mechanical person... if you all have any suggestions on what I should look at before I pay someone else (or bite the bullet and save for a foot controlled unit), I would appreciate it!

This is the newer version of the motor I have... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0EPNA1ZTGKH5PRFC5PAK

Thank you,

andrew

i've been having a similar problem with my minn 30. every once in a while it stops working one day,and no problem the next.its not from overheating, and no fishing line is wrapped around the shaft.its 6 years old and gets a lot of use so maybe its just altogether worn out.maybe its time for a new one.

you have a rotary switch in your handle that controls the speed forward n backwards, they wear out or short out.. Replace it, its easy and not to spendy from what i remember..

I would verify this is the correct part for your specific model, but it will be similar.
